Mission & vision
Our mission
Bright Islamic Primary was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: strong literacy is the key to all learning. Starting as a specialized tuition centre in early reading and phonics, we developed our own custom reading programme combining the best global reading models. As our student body expanded, we transitioned into a full primary school with a comprehensive curriculum. Today, literacy remains our cornerstone, empowering our pupils to confidently explore and excel in Science, Mathematics, Hifdh, and future academic pursuits.

Academics
British Curriculum & A Tailored Islamic Curriculum
We teach the British curriculum to a high standard, covering English, maths, science, humanities, art and PE, alongside our own tailored Islamic curriculum of Qur'an, Arabic and Islamic Studies. Year-group teachers stay with their class for most subjects, so they can spot patterns in how each child learns across both.
Early Years
The main focus here is phonics and early reading, paired with early numeracy and plenty of practice building fine motor skills. Alongside this, children begin their early Arabic reading and take their first steps in Islamic studies, learning basic Islamic manners, simple duas and stories of the Prophets.

Key Stage 1
Children continue their reading journey, working toward fluency and stronger comprehension, while maths takes on more weight than in the Early Years. By the end of this stage, most children will have graduated from Higaad and started Qur'an memorisation. Science, geography, Arabic and other subjects are introduced alongside the core subjects.

Key Stage 2

How to join Bright Islamic Primary
Places are offered on a rolling basis where space allows, with priority given to siblings of current students. Here's what the process looks like from first enquiry to your child's first day.

Building readers and writers from the start
Why we start with reading
Reading isn't something our brains are naturally wired to do, unlike speaking, which develops on its own. Learning to read actually rewires the brain: it takes the visual areas built for recognising shapes and faces and teaches them to instantly turn written letters into sounds and words. Because the brain breaks words down into sound pieces in a fraction of a second, step-by-step phonics instruction is what builds those new connections. Mastering it doesn't just help with reading comprehension either. It sharpens auditory processing and language skills more broadly, which is really the point: reading is a foundational skill that expands what the brain is capable of learning.
Phonics Programme & Reading Initiatives
Using our own successful and proven synthetic phonics system, we're able to build strong, confident readers. Alongside this, we have a collection of readers that students work through to build their reading stage by stage. Older students are encouraged to read daily too, with a significant supply of books available to them at school. Reading is also woven into English lessons and stays a priority right across our curriculum.
Library highlights
Students are encouraged to borrow a reading book once a week, giving them a chance to read something they'll actually enjoy. We keep a record of what's borrowed, both to make sure books come back on time and in good condition, and to check that students are choosing books that stretch them rather than always playing it safe. Teachers sometimes choose a book for a child directly, either to set up a small project or to push their reading comprehension a bit further.

Islamic education is an integral part of our school day at Bright Islamic Primary. Our programme is designed to help children develop a strong relationship with the Qur'an, understand their deen through the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, and build the knowledge and habits needed to practise Islam with confidence. It covers four areas: Higaad & Qur'an reading, Qur'an memorisation (Hifdh), Islamic Studies, and Arabic, each following a structured, age-appropriate programme that builds progressively from the Early Years through the primary years.
Higaad & Qur'an reading
Every child's Qur'an journey begins with a strong foundation in Higaad and Arabic reading. We've developed our own structured Higaad programme to help children progress systematically from recognising and pronouncing Arabic letters to reading the Qur'an independently. It usually takes around 1.5–2 years in the Early Years, while children joining from Year 2 and above can typically complete it within 6–9 months, depending on their starting level.

Qur'an memorisation (Hifdh)
Once students complete Higaad, they begin their Hifdh journey. Our programme combines new memorisation with consistent revision, since successful memorisation depends as much on preserving what's already been learned as on adding new portions.
The school morning usually begins with students reciting their Hifdh homework to their teacher, after which they receive their next memorisation assignment. Students then take part in Subcis, a Somali-style group Qur'an revision method that gives children repeated opportunities to recite and revise together, strengthening recall and building confidence in recitation.

Our goal isn't simply to help children memorise Qur'an, but to help them retain it and build a lifelong relationship with it.
Islamic Studies
Our Islamic Studies programme strengthens students' understanding and practice of their deen, using the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah as the foundation of their learning, with a strong emphasis on Tawheed and correct Islamic creed. As students move through the year groups, they study subjects suited to their age and level, including Tawheed and Aqeedah, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, Adkaar and Du'a, Seerah, Islamic manners and character, and the practical aspects of worship and everyday Muslim life.

Arabic Studies
Arabic is the language of the Qur'an, and we want our students to build a meaningful connection with it from an early age. Our Arabic programme develops all four key language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening, through a structured curriculum that progresses by year group and ability. Alongside classroom lessons, students work through graded Arabic reading books, giving them regular practice with vocabulary, comprehension and reading fluency, and are encouraged to use Arabic in increasingly practical ways as they progress.
